 Vaitheeswaran
Koil is a famous
Saivaite shrine
in Tanjore district.
The temple is known
by several names
like Tirupulliruku,
Vedapuri, Panappuri
and so on.
It is believed that
the Lord came as
a Vaidya and cured
Agaraka of his leprosy.
The deity here is
Vaidyanatha Eeswarar
and the goddess
is Tayyalnayaji
Devi. The sthala
vriksha is the neem
tree. There are
idols of a lot of
Gods here. Muruga
enshrined here is
Selvamuttukumaraswami.
There are many important
Teerthams like the
Siddhamurtha Teertham.
The place is supposed
to have been visited
by many gods and
saints including
Rama who offered
prayers to his ancestors
here. The remains
of a lot of pal
lava architecture
and sculpture can
be seen here. The
temple is very rich
as it gets huge
amounts as offering
and has much property
in its name.
Vaitheeswaran Koil
falls in the railway
line of Madras and
Mayavaram line and
hence is easily
