Lord Siva and is

 The
Lingam here is Appu
Lingam or water
lingam placed under
an ancient Jambu
tree which is also
the sthalavriksham.
There are a lot
of legends associated
with this place.
The Appu Lingam
is supposed to be
made by goddess
Parvati when she
was asked to go
on a penance for
clearing some of
her doubts by Siva.
Parvati came to
this place and made
a Lingam out of
water and through
her penance was
able to bring Lord
Siva who answered
al her queries.
This was the origin
the Appu Lingam.
There used to be
two staunch devotees
of Siva Malayavan
and Pushpadanta.
They quarreled among
themselves to know
who the superior
Siva bakta was.
Through their curses
they were turned
to Spider and an
elephant. Siva was
pleased at the elephant’s
devotion and granted
him salvation As
the Lord was worshipped
by an elephant in
this grove; this
place came to be
known as Tiruvanaikka
from which the present
name has been derived.
The Devi here is
known as Akhilandeswari.
The temple is very
famous and hence
has a lot of wealth.
The temple gets
huge amounts as
offerings and has
many properties
attached to it.
The place is accessible
by rail and road.
