Tiruvalanchuzhi
is situated on the
banks of the river
Arasalan. The temple
is famous for its
origin and also
for its beautiful
architecture.
 During
the process of churning
the nectar for immortality
by placing Mount
Meru as the churning
staff, the Devas
experienced a lot
of impediments.
They decided to
propitiate Lord
Vinayaka who is
the god for success.
They built a Vinayaka
from the foam caused
in the ocean due
to churning. This
Vinayaka is white
in color and is
known as Vellai
Pillaiar. The Devas
could then procure
the nectar. Indira
worshipped this
Vinayaka in Indraloka
and in one particular
instance carried
the idol to this
place, Valanchuzhi,
on account of his
pilgrimage in the
Ahalya episode.
He placed the idol
here and worshipped
the Vinayaka. But
when he left the
idol refused to
move from here and
so Indra left it
here. Great importance
is attributed to
this White Vinayaka
with the trunk turned
right.
Tiruvalanchuzhi
is on the way to
Swamimalai temple.
The nearest railway
station is swamimalai
railway station.
