Thirunangur
is home to the temple
known as southern
Badrinath.It is
near Chidambaram.

is the temple of
Sri Narayan Perumal,
where the Lord is
in the same form
as in Badrinath.He
is accompanies by
SriDevi and Bhoodevi.The
goddess is Pundarikavalli.
It is believed that
for Garudotsavam
which is held in
the Tamil month
of Thai, eleven
forms of Vishnu
and Thiruvali Thirunagari
Thirumangai Azhwar
is said to assemble
here. According
to the legend, when
Siva did a yaga
to get rid of the
Brahmahatti Dosa,
Vishnu appeared
before him. Siva
requested Vishnu
to appear in his
eleven forms which
he obliged. So it
is said that the
eleven Divya Desas
in Thirunangur is
believed to have
come and pleased
Lord Siva. The garudotsavam
festival is conducted
with great grandeur
here. It is believed
that the great Vaishnavite
saint Thirumangai
Azhwar and wife
visited this place
to see the 11 Divya
Desas.
Thirunangar can
be reached by road
from Chidambaram
or Sirgazhi. The
nearest railway
station to reach
Thirnangur is Sirgazhi.
