Sriperumbudur
is about 60 km from
Chennai. The place
is famous as the
birth place of the
famous Vaishnavite
Saint Ramanujam.
The Sri Adhikesavaperumal
Temple is the famous
temple here.
 The
main deity in the
temple is Sri Adhikeshavaperumal
with his consorts,
Sreedevi and Bhoodevi.
On the side lies
the shrine of Sri
Ramanuja. A little
apart lies the shrine
of Yatirajanathavallithayar.
The temple has a
golden vimanam with
the image Sri Ramanujam
etched on it. The
idol of Sri Ramanuja
is said to be very
powerful. It is
popularly believed
that Ramanujam embraced
this idol and passed
all his powers to
the idol. Worshipping

Four huge, gigantic
pillars hold the
roof of Sri Asdhikeshavaperumal’s
shrine. It is believed
that the builders
of the pillars tried
to erect them. But
because it was so
big and heavy they
gave it up by dusk.
The next morning
they were surprised
to see the pillars
already erected.
They believed that
only giants could
erect them. That
is why the place
