Vinayaka
is supposed to be
the easiest gods
to please. The temple
of Karpaga Vinayaka
of Pillayarpatti
is very famous.
This is in the Thirupattur
– Karaikudi
Highway.
The deity here is
of course Karpaga
Vinayakar or Desi
Vinayaka. It is
said that like the
Karpaga Vriksham
which bestows all
prosperity, praying
to this vinayak
will shower all
good. This is a
valampiri Vinayakar.
This idol indicates
the peaceful aspect
as the God does
not hold any weapon.
The temple is in
a cave. It is said
that it came to
being in the Pandya
period. The sanctum
sanitoriam has a
rare panel of Harihara
with the combine
features of Siva
and Vishnu. Garuda
and Chandikeswara
can also be seen
here. It is considered
that worshipping
here is equal to
worshipping in all
the six houses of
Vinayaka. As expected
the most famous
festival celebrated
is Vinayaka Chaturthi.
There are colorful
paintings within
the temple. The
sculpture and architecture
is also very beautiful.
Pillayarpatti can
be reached by rail
to Karaikudi which
is 8km away from
this place. There
are frequent bus
services from there.
