The
temple at Nagercoil
stands amidst paddy
fields twelve miles
away from Cape Comorin.
 The
legend goes that
a stone was found
in the paddy fields
by a worker, from
which blood oozed
out when it was
struck by the sickle.
The stone was recognized
as Vasuki- the serpent
king. The idols
of Ananta and Lord
Krishna were installed,
with the idol of
Siva in between
them so as to avoid
any conflict that
may arise between
Krishna and the
Kaliya form of Ananta.There
are also legends
that the temple
belonged to the
Jains as there are
carvings of Mahavira
and Parswanantha
found on the pillars.
Milk offerings to
serpents are popular
here. The earthen
prasadam from the
place where Nagaraja
is installed is
said to be perennial
and is white in
color for six months
and black for the
remaining six months.
The Tirunelveli
district where this
temple is located
has a railway station
and is well connected
by rail and road
from all the major
cities of the South.
There are government
and private hotels
for the comfortable
stay of the pilgrims.
