Krishnapuram
is located about
six miles from Tirunelveli
district. Lord Venkatachalapathy
has been installed
here with Sri Devi
and Bhoo Devi. The
temple is extremely
beautiful with beautiful
sculptures and images
surrounding it.
It is an example
of rare workmanship.
 The
temple has a Mandapam
known as Veerappa
Naick Mandapam which
is famous for its
life like sculptures
on its pillars.
The entrance of
the Mandapam has
two beautifully
carved elephants.
Each pillar in the
mandapam represents
stories from legends.
One pillar has the
story of the adventure
of Bhimasena with
Purushamrigam. Purushamrigam
is a half beast
half man creature
whose milk was required
for Yudhishtiras
yagna. The sculpture
depicts Bhima being
held helplessly
by Purushamrigam
and a serene Yudhishtira
speaking to him.
Another pillar has
a representation
of a price and a
princess being abducted
by a Kuravan and
Kuratti. The other
images depicted
in the other pillars
include Arjuna’s
penance holding
a bow and arrow,
an image of Karna,
a dancing girl with
a bouquet in hand,
an image of an elephant
and a bull interlocked
cleverly. The temple
apart from its sanctity
also provides a
visual treat to
its pilgrims.
The Krishnapuram
village can be reached
by road from Tirunelveli
which is the closes
railway station.
Tirunelveli has
hotels for accommodation
purposes.
