Kiratamarajareswaram
is a Siva temple
in the Villivakkam
village of Chengalpettu
distict. The sacred
tank here is known
as Pundarika Pushkarani.
It is believed that
when Ganga complained
to lord Siva that
she was becoming
impure due to cleansing
the sins of others.
Then Siva asked
her to immerse herself
in the Pundarika
pushkarni and worship
Kiratamarajareswara
to cleanse her sins.
Ganga did so her
and was absolved
of all her sins.
Muktambikai is the
name of the goddess.
The Muktambikai
idol can be seen
with a silver string
in her hands. This
hand was mutilated
and later joined
by the landlord
Sri Kumara swami
Mudaliar as requested
by Lord Siva. The
name of the place
is Villivakkam,
Villi meaning Kirata
or hunter and vakkam
meaning a group
of houses forming
a hamlet. The Pundarika
Pushkarni is considered
very holy. There
are a lot of festivals
conducted here.
This place is a
small village in
the Ghunampet Taluk.
The village can
be reachd by road
from nearby towns.
