There
are three important
temples of Anjaneya
in Chennai city
of which the oldest
is the one at Luz.
The Luz Anjaneya
temple is supposed
to have been set
up by the Salivahana
Chettiars. It is
believed that after
they procured the
land from the Nawab
Arcot, they found
the swayambhu Dirham
of the Anjaneya.
A copper vigraham
of Sri Venugopla
is also installed.
Any offering is
first made to the
vigraham of Sri
Venugopla. Later
a separate shrine
of Sri Ram was also
built.
Nanganallur Anjaneya
- The Nanganllur
Anjaneya temple
is known for its
huge idol of Sri
Adhivyathi Hara
Bhakta Anjaneya.which
is 32feet tall.
The speciality of
this idol is that
it was sculpted
from one large block
of granite. Anjaneya
represents courage,
strength loyality
and most importantly
Bhakti. All these
are reflected in
the Nanganallur
Anjaneya temple.
Bhakta Anjaneyar,
Alamelumangapuram-Devotees
from all castes
and creeds come
and visit this popular
temple at Mylapore.
It is said that
the temple was constructed
at the instruction
of the Kanchi Sankarachaya,
Sri Jayendra Saraswati.
The temple has an
18 feet vigraham.
There are many festivals
celebrated here.
Vadais and tulasi
are offered to the
Lord. The Sri Rama
Navami celebrations
are also conducted
with great devotion.
